How to repair broken or damaged hair

Like many people I’ve suffered from damaged, broken hair in the center of my head. All around the sides have grown exceptionally well since I’ve decided to grow it out without applying a relaxer but the middle section is half the length of the rest of my hair. At first I thought about cutting off the hair that is longer than the damaged hair to make it all even and camouflage the center but it took me over a year for the shoulder length hair to grow. I want to keep the length I already have without the big chop again.
Now that I know cutting my hair is out of the question I’ve taken it upon myself to repair my damaged hair by :
Trimming off the split hair in the middle area.
Using moisturizer to help replenish and soften the damaged hair.
By avoiding putting tight ponytails in the center of my hair, I reduce tension that may cause the hair to break.
I’ve also been giving myself hair oil treatments once a month.
So far it’s been about two months and Ive already seen some improvement on length and feel of my hair strands in the damaged middle.
My hair is virgin, natural hair so Ive also been twisting it before bedtime to help lock in some of the moisture before rest.
Hair bonnets are a good way to go when looking for a way to protect the hair at night. Ive been using a bonnet to help prevent my hair from snagging or breaking while I rest and when I get up in the morning my hair is less matted and not knotted up like it use to be when I didn’t wear one.
I’ve also changed my shampoo from a regular brand to one that is mild. Using the correct type of shampoo also plays a role in how the hair feels and looks. Using a mild shampoo helps prevent my hair strands from being striped of its natural oils and looking dry.
My natural hair gets dry so I use a moisture rich conditioner to help add moisture to my hair. Also I normally apply Jojoba oil to my hair after shampooing it.
Recently I had my hair bleached to lighten the hair color from dark brown to a light brown red looking color. At first it was beautiful but after wearing the color for about a month, my new growth is showing and now I have two tone hair. I want to make the new growth match the rest of my hair but I am trying not to color my hair to often and too soon. I am also trying to avoid spending too much money to maintain the color.
Bleaching my hair has cause more work because now I have to continuously add color and even be more cautious about keeping my hair well moistened because without properly caring for the lightened hair will cause it to break off and become weak.
Ive decided to apply a rinse that will help my hair color to look vibrant without penetrating the hair shaft. Hair rinse is cheaper than getting my hair bleached again and safer for my hair strands. A rinse cost under five dollars while bleaching can cost up to thirty five dollars. The rinse will last for up to 6 to 8 shampoos before I will need to reapply so I think this will be a good way to go.
Damaged hair in the center of the head can really make styling the hair a headache because When I wear my hair down I feel like people can notice the inconsistency in lengths so Ive been hiding it by wearing twist, wraps, and box braids. As the hair gets longer I will be able to style as usual, but for now I have to care for the center of my hair until its strong enough for regular styles.
